Biography

Canadian composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Dubmatix is one of the most celebrated reggae and dub artists in the world, with a career spanning over two decades, nine JUNO Award wins and nominations, and a global audience built entirely on the strength of his music.

Toronto-born Dubmatix first burst onto the music scene with his debut release Champion Sound Clash in 2004 and has since established himself as one of the top reggae producers on the planet, with six chart-topping releases in a row and best album honours from Germany, France, Portugal, and Italy.

His remixes and productions have topped global charts, including Billboard's number-one Bob Marley remix of all time, Is This Love, which has surpassed 40 million streams. He has also composed original scores for two feature films — RasTa: A Soul's Journey (2011), the documentary produced by Rita and Bob Marley's granddaughter Donisha Prendergast, and Home Again (2012), a drama featuring an original Dubmatix score.

Dubmatix has developed a unique and immediately recognisable signature sound — a Phil Spector-esque full sound built on heavy bass, majestic horn lines, and thick-set percussive grooves. That sound has made him the go-to producer for artists and bands seeking depth and authenticity, with remix and production credits spanning Easy Star All-Stars, John Brown's Body, Gentleman's Dub Club, Dreadzone, Morgan Heritage (Grammy Award Winners), Ari Up of The Slits, Ranking Roger, Brain Damage, iLLBiLLY HiTec, and The Clash, whose London Calling he reimagined for a vinyl release in Japan — among 100+ remixes completed over two decades.

His 2018 collaboration with legendary Jamaican rhythm section Sly & Robbie — Overdubbed, released on Echo Beach — won the JUNO Award for Best Reggae Recording in 2019, was named the number-two Best Dub/Remix Album of 2018 by Reggae.fr, and reached number one on the Global Reggae Charts. The same year, Dubmatix completed a remix for Grammy Award winners Morgan Heritage, receiving rave reviews internationally.

In 2014, Dubmatix appeared on Billboard Magazine's Uncharted Top 50 Artists list, remaining a mainstay on the charts for over 20 weeks. His syndicated radio show the Bassment Sessions has been broadcasting for over a decade across 40+ stations worldwide, and his Bass Culture newsletter on Substack has become a leading long-form publication on reggae and dub music history and production.

With 2.8 million followers on SoundCloud, 247,000 on Facebook, and a catalogue of over 100 releases spanning reggae, dub, roots, jungle, ska, and beyond, Dubmatix continues to produce, remix, master, and broadcast from Toronto — one of the most prolific and respected independent artists the genre has ever produced.
